Why green is good in winter

During winter, we naturally eat more warm and comforting foods and often forget about hydration and greens. This green smoothie helps restore balance without feeling cold or harsh on the body.

Drinking this green smoothie recipe in winter can:

  • Support the immune system
  • Provide vitamin C and antioxidants
  • Improve digestion during heavier meals
  • Increase daily hydration
  • Bring lightness and vitality to colder days

The 4 ingredients

  • Young spinach : Rich in vitamin C, folate, iron, and antioxidants, young spinach supports energy levels, immunity, and gut health. Its mild flavor makes it ideal for smoothies, allowing you to increase your daily greens intake without overpowering the taste.
  • Pear (ripe and sweet) : Pear provides natural sweetness, fiber, and hydration. It supports digestion, helps balance blood sugar when paired with greens, and gives this smoothie its soft, pleasant flavor, no added sweeteners needed !
  • One whole lemon, peeled : Lemon is a powerful source of vitamin C and antioxidants. It supports digestion, liver function, and immune health while adding freshness and brightness. When peeled and blended with pear, it becomes gentle and well balanced.
  • Water : Water ensures proper hydration and helps the body absorb nutrients efficiently. It keeps the smoothie light, refreshing, and easy to digest.

Just clean, whole ingredients for this green smoothie recipe.

How to vary this smoothie?

This simple green smoothie also works beautifully as a base.

Depending on the season or your needs, you can vary it by adding :

  • celery for extra hydration,
  • orange for more sweetness and vitamin C,
  • fresh ginger for digestion and warmth, or
  • kale for an extra dose of greens.

You can also add 1 tablespoon of your favorite superfood powder. Spirulina, for example, is often used to support detoxification from heavy metals and may help improve iron intake, making this smoothie even more nourishing when your body needs a little extra support.

Why young (baby) spinach is great for smoothie?

Simple green smoothie for winter

Compared to mature spinach, young (baby) spinach has a milder flavor and a more tender texture, which makes it especially well suited for smoothies. It blends easily and becomes almost invisible in taste, allowing you to increase your daily greens intake without overpowering the flavor of the fruit.

While both young and mature spinach are highly nutritious, baby spinach is often easier to digest and more pleasant to consume raw.

If you’re not eating greens daily, this smoothie is one of the simplest and most accessible places to start.

Lemon + Asian or regular pear, the perfect balance

Using one entire lemon in a smoothie might sound intense, but once peeled, it becomes surprisingly gentle and refreshing.

By adding a full pear (unpeeled), its natural sweetness softens the lemon. And whenever it is the season, I’ll go for an Asian pear. If not available, I’ll just use a regular pear.

Rotating varieties supports a broader intake of nutrients and keeps our food habits interesting and seasonal, especially if you want to improve your plant-based diet !

A simple habit worth keeping

This simple green smoothie for winter is about consistency, not perfection.
Four ingredients, five minutes, and a nourishing result that supports your body all season long.

Sometimes, less really is more!
